GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an experienced GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) Engineer to lead the installation, testing, commissioning, operation, and maintenance of 220kV and 66kV GIS systems for a leading power transmission company in Bahrain.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test, commission, operate and maintain 220kV & 66kV GIS equipment.
• Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on GIS and related high‑voltage switchgear.
• Diagnose and rectify faults in GIS, transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, CTs, PTs, busbars and associated systems.
• Execute insulation resistance, contact resistance, timing, SF6 leakage and functional testing.
• Read and interpret single line diagrams, protection schematics, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with OEMs, consultants and project teams during installation and commissioning.
• Prepare maintenance schedules, technical reports, testing records and commissioning documentation.
• Supervise technicians and contractors while ensuring compliance with international standards and safety regulations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BE/B.Tech).
• 5‑7 years of experience with operation, maintenance, installation, testing and commissioning of 220kV & 66kV GIS.
• At least 3 years of hands‑on GIS installation, testing and commissioning.
• Experience with OEMs or OEM channel partners; GCC or international utility experience preferred.
• Knowledge of 33/11kV metal‑clad switchgear, circuit breakers and busbars is an advantage.
