Business Development & Underwriting Manager – IPMI

About the role

The Business Development & Underwriting Manager – IPMI will lead the growth of SIMA’s International Private Medical Insurance portfolio through strategic business development, sound underwriting practices and effective partner management. Reporting to the Senior Executive Officer, the role combines commercial leadership with technical underwriting oversight to ensure sustainable portfolio growth and operational excellence.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute business development strategies to increase premium production and expand SIMA’s network of strategic partners across existing and target markets.
• Identify, negotiate, onboard and manage commercial relationships with reinsurers, cedants, TPAs, brokers and other partners.
• Prepare and deliver product presentations and commercial proposals to prospective and existing business partners.
• Review medical insurance proposals within delegated underwriting authority and coordinate referrals with reinsurers.
• Monitor underwriting performance, portfolio profitability, renewal retention, claims experience and loss ratios, recommending corrective actions.
• Support product development and continuous enhancement of IPMI offerings in collaboration with reinsurers and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, delegated authorities and regulatory requirements.
• Oversee onboarding and implementation of strategic partners, coordinate policy administration and claims management, and prepare performance reports and strategic recommendations.

Required profile

• Proven experience in business development and underwriting within the insurance sector.
• Demonstrated ability to manage and grow an International Private Medical Insurance portfolio.
• Strong analytical skills with experience monitoring portfolio performance and loss ratios.
• Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation capabilities.
• Knowledge of regulatory compliance and underwriting best practices.
