Environment and Climate Change Specialist

About the role

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Bahrain is seeking an Environment and Climate Change Specialist to support its portfolio on environmental sustainability, climate action, and resilient development. The role will involve conducting environmental assessments, generating evidence for policy, and coordinating with government bodies and partners.

Key responsibilities

• Support implementation of environment, climate change and sustainability initiatives.
• Design and execute environmental assessments, including data collection, analysis and reporting.
• Prepare technical inputs, briefing notes, policy briefs and analytical documents.
• Coordinate with the Supreme Council for Environment, government counterparts and other stakeholders.
• Organise consultations, workshops, technical meetings and stakeholder engagement activities.
• Assist in preparing and monitoring Annual Work Plans and programme schedules.
• Work with consultants and technical experts on assessment and sustainability projects.
• Prepare presentations, communication materials and knowledge products, documenting lessons learned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Climate Change, Sustainability or related field (Master’s degree is an asset).
• Minimum 3 years of professional experience in environmental management, climate change or sustainability.
• Knowledge of the SDGs, environmental governance and climate‑related frameworks.
• Experience working with government institutions, international organisations or development partners.
• Strong analytical, research, writing and reporting skills.
• Fluency in English and Arabic.
