Flying Spanner Outstation Engineer

About the role

The Flying Spanner Outstation Engineer provides on‑board technical support for DPDHL’s aircraft fleet, ensuring high dispatch reliability and rapid resolution of in‑flight defects. This role combines hands‑on aircraft maintenance with coordination of ground support at outstations worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, modifications and alterations on company‑owned or leased aircraft.
• Fly onboard aircraft to observe, record and analyse any defects that occur during flight.
• Conduct detailed walk‑around inspections on route and report findings via the electronic Technical Log (eTL) and company reporting system.
• Act as the primary point of contact for each flight, briefing receiving engineers on technical issues identified by the captain.
• Coordinate with the BAH MOC and local DHL personnel to manage AOG (Aircraft on Ground) situations, arrange ground support equipment, hangar space and, where possible, return the aircraft to base using the approved MEL.
• Ensure all maintenance actions comply with approved data, regulatory standards and local airport procedures (e.g., CRS, engine‑running curfew).

Required profile

• Certified International Specialist in aircraft maintenance.
• Valid aircraft maintenance licence or equivalent certification.
• Proven experience providing technical support on aircraft in operational environments.
• Willingness to travel frequently and work on‑site at various international airports.

Required skills

• Aircraft maintenance and repair techniques.
• Knowledge of MEL (Minimum Equipment List) compliance.
• Proficiency with eTL (electronic Technical Log) and defect recording systems.
• AOG handling and coordination with ground support providers.
• Understanding of airport CRS procedures and curfew restrictions.
