Senior Data Engineer (5+ Years Experience)

About the role

ARRAY, a software services company based in Bahrain, is looking for a Data Engineer with 5+ years of experience. The role covers data modelling, ETL/ELT pipelines, lakehouse architecture, database engineering and data governance, deployed on a Kubernetes-native platform alongside AWS services.

Key responsibilities

• Data modelling: design schemas and semantic layers (medallion bronze/silver/gold) for AI-driven applications and analytics.
• ETL and pipeline architecture: build and orchestrate batch and streaming ETL/ELT pipelines with Airflow and dbt, feeding cloud data warehouses and lakes.
• Lakehouse and storage: design and maintain data lake and lakehouse solutions using Apache Iceberg, Delta Lake or Hudi over object storage.
• Database engineering: manage relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle) and tune performance, replication and migrations.
• Data governance: implement role-based access control, permission-aware retrieval, reconciliation and data quality monitoring.
• Cloud and platform integration: deploy and operate data workloads on a Kubernetes-native platform (ArgoCD, Terraform) with core AWS services.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a STEM-based subject.
• 5+ years of experience in data or software engineering.
• Strong SQL and Python (or Java) skills.
• Hands-on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines with Airflow.
• Experience with unstructured data stores (Vector DBs, Document DBs) for AI/ML retrieval use cases.
• Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).
• Strong written and verbal English.

Nice-to-have skills

• Apache Spark, Kafka, Debezium, Kinesis, Glue Data Catalog, DataHub, Amundsen, Power BI.
• AWS, Azure or GCP certification.
• Experience migrating legacy on-prem databases to the cloud, Prometheus and Grafana.
