Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) – OCONUS

About the role

The Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) will lead the safety and health program for a $50 million per year operation and maintenance and life support services contract across three sites in the Middle East. This position ensures compliance with U.S. Government, host‑nation regulations and industry best practices.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and maintain the Site Safety and Health Plan in line with EM 385‑1‑1, OSHA and local regulations.
• Conduct regular site inspections, hazard assessments, job hazard analyses and lead internal and external safety audits.
• Deliver safety orientation, training and maintain certification records for employees, subcontractors and visitors.
• Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, CAPA development and reporting.
• Maintain safety documentation, SDS, permits and emergency response plans; coordinate drills with local emergency services.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Minimum five years supervising safety programs in construction and general industry.
• Experience in austere or Middle‑East environments is highly desirable.
• Strong communication, leadership and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• 30‑hour OSHA Construction Safety certification.
• Familiarity with EM 385‑1‑1 requirements.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST) preferred.
