Unit Head Legal – Banking – Bahrain

About the role

Lead and manage the Bank’s legal support function across litigation, product development, HR, operations, risk, audit, compliance and Sharia. Ensure full compliance with applicable laws and regulations, provide strategic legal advice and mitigate legal and regulatory risks while supporting business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all litigation and dispute resolution matters, managing external counsel and developing litigation strategies.
• Provide legal advice on structuring, development and launch of new banking products, reviewing documentation and ensuring Sharia compliance.
• Advise HR on employment law, draft contracts and policies, and support handling of employee disputes and regulatory inquiries.
• Assist operations in resolving legal issues and improving process efficiency.
• Support the Risk function by identifying, assessing and mitigating legal risks related to credit, market and operational activities.
• Provide legal inputs for internal and external audits, address audit findings and strengthen governance.
• Interpret regulatory requirements for the Compliance function and support responses to regulatory inquiries.
• Ensure all legal documentation and transactions comply with Sharia principles and liaise with the Sharia Department.
