Item Master Specialist – Civil Engineering

About the role

The Item Master Specialist is responsible for creating, maintaining, and governing item master data within the ERP system to support procurement, inventory, and financial reporting. The role ensures accurate classification and coding of materials, equipment, spare parts, and services, acting as a key custodian of data integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Create, update, and deactivate item master records in the ERP system, following naming conventions and classification standards such as UNSPSC.
• Validate item descriptions, technical specifications, units of measure, manufacturer details, and part numbers for accuracy.
• Identify and eliminate duplicate records, conduct periodic data audits, and generate data‑quality reports.
• Collaborate with Procurement, Warehouse, Engineering, Finance and other stakeholders to ensure consistent item identification and classification.
• Develop and maintain master data policies, procedures, and governance documentation, and support continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in item master data management, supply chain, procurement or inventory control, preferably in construction or engineering environments.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and attention‑to‑detail skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities and maintain confidentiality of business‑critical data.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel and reporting tool usage for data analysis.
• Knowledge of item classification methodologies (UNSPSC, commodity codes, material groups).
• Understanding of inventory management, procurement processes and internal controls.
