Senior Corporate Credit Underwriter

About the role

Bank ABC is looking for a Senior Corporate Credit Underwriter to join its Head Office Credit Department in Bahrain. Reporting to the Group Chief Credit Officer, you will play a pivotal role in assessing and managing credit risk across the corporate portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Support, promote, monitor and control the quality of loan and risk assets within the corporate credit portfolio.
• Evaluate credit risk of new business and conduct periodic reviews of existing clients, ensuring alignment with risk appetite, policies and procedures.
• Prepare clear, timely recommendations for credit committees, highlighting key risks and mitigation measures.
• Submit credit proposals within prescribed timeframes and establish underwriting procedures.
• Monitor outstanding documentation, provide explanations, and mitigate potential risks.
• Travel to covered countries as required to perform portfolio reviews.
• Ensure compliance with the Group’s Risk Appetite Statement, Credit Policy, standards and related procedures.
• Assist in interpreting credit policies, conduct regular portfolio reviews, and escalate significant risk issues.
• Contribute to sector reports, transformational projects and internal training initiatives.

Required profile

• Minimum Bachelor’s degree; postgraduate MSc/MBA or professional qualification is a plus.
• At least 10 years of experience in credit underwriting, preferably with an international bank and demonstrated mobility.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial statement analysis, banking products and credit analytical techniques.
• Familiarity with vanilla credit product risks, legal documentation, and corporate balance‑sheet analysis.
• Understanding of bank lending policies, procedures and market dynamics.
