Chief Risk Officer

About the role

The Chief Risk Officer will lead the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of a comprehensive risk management framework for a licensed financial institution. Reporting to senior leadership, this role ensures that operational, financial, regulatory and strategic risks are identified, assessed, mitigated and monitored across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and oversee a robust enterprise risk management (ERM) framework.
• Identify, assess and mitigate risks in credit, operational, market, liquidity and regulatory domains.
• Collaborate with senior executives and key stakeholders to embed a risk‑aware culture.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations and industry standards.
• Provide strategic recommendations to the executive team for sustainable risk mitigation.
• Manage interactions with regulatory bodies, audits and compliance assessments.

Required profile

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business or related field; advanced degrees or certifications (CPA, CFA, FRM) highly advantageous.
• At least 5 years of risk management experience in a licensed bank or financial institution.
• Proven track record managing credit, operational, market, liquidity and regulatory risk.
• Experience dealing with regulators and handling audits.
• Strong analytical background in finance and exceptional leadership, decision‑making and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment and across cross‑functional teams.
• Must qualify and be approved by the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB).
