Able Seaman Engine (Engine Rating)

About the role

Svitzer, a global company in towage and related services with over 4,000 employees and more than 500 tugs, is hiring an Engine Rating. The rating reports to the Chief Engineer and helps keep the vessel available for deployment in a safe and efficient way, in line with company policy, procedures and local legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform all work tasks safely; ask the Chief Engineer for guidance if in doubt before starting work.
• Propose initiatives to raise the onboard safety level and take part in safety training such as drills.
• Carry out duties assigned by the Chief Engineer, including maintenance and housekeeping on deck, in the engine room and in accommodation.
• Know and apply the Stop Work procedure (including Take 5) and report near misses proactively to the Chief Engineer or Master.
• Comply with the company safety management system regulations and give induction training to visitors and other authorised persons when officers are unavailable.

Required profile

• STCW III/4 Eng Watch Rating certificate (unlimited).
• Basic Safety Training (STCW A-VI/1) and security training for seafarers with designated security duties (STCW A-VI/6).
• Valid seafarer medical certificate.
• At least 24 months of sea time as an Oiler.
• Understanding of English preferred.
