Backend Engineer (AI Agent/Harness Specialist)

About the role

Spookling is looking for a Backend Engineer who specializes in AI agents and integration harnesses. You will build and maintain the backend services that power our AI‑first workspace, ensuring that AI models work seamlessly with user‑facing features.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and operate APIs, microservices, and data pipelines that connect AI/ML models to the platform.
• Implement and maintain integration layers (harnesses) with external tools and services.
• Monitor system health, troubleshoot production incidents, and optimise performance and security.
• Collaborate with product managers, AI/ML engineers, and front‑end developers to translate requirements into scalable backend architectures.
• Improve developer tooling and CI/CD pipelines for AI agent workflows.

Required profile

• Strong background in backend web development and production‑grade systems.
• Experience working in fast‑paced startup environments with rapid iteration.
• Ability to work on‑site in Manama and communicate effectively with cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Python, Node.js, Go, or Java.
• Solid understanding of object‑oriented programming and modern backend design patterns.
• Experience building APIs, microservices, and database‑driven applications.
• Knowledge of relational databases, NoSQL databases, caching strategies, and message queues.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), containerisation (Docker), and CI/CD practices.
• Hands‑on experience integrating AI/ML models or agents into backend systems.
