Commis I - Kitchen Assistant

About the role

A full-time, non-management Commis I position in the food and beverage and culinary field, based in the Al Seef District of Manama, Bahrain. The role covers preparing meals and cooking food according to recipes and quality standards, and includes supporting the kitchen team and guests.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare special meals or substitute items and prepare cold foods.
• Regulate the temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters, and pull food from freezer storage to thaw in the refrigerator.
• Ensure proper portion, arrangement and garnish, and monitor the quality and quantity of food prepared.
• Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards and the food preparation checklist.
• Maintain food logs and inform the Chef of excess food items for daily specials.
• Tell Food & Beverage service staff about menu specials and out-of-stock items, and anticipate guests' service needs.
• Assist management with hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining and motivating staff, and act as a role model.
• Follow company and safety policies, report accidents and unsafe conditions, complete safety training, and keep a clean, professional appearance.

Required profile

• Preferred: a technical, trade or vocational school degree.
• Preferred: at least 3 years of related work experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• Physical ability to stand, sit or walk for long periods, bend, twist and lift up to 25 pounds without assistance.
