Director Flight Operations

About the role

The Director of Flight Operations leads safe, compliant and commercially optimized flight activities for DHL Aviation. Reporting to senior leadership, this role ensures alignment with CAA, ICAO and IATA regulations while supporting the global air network.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain full compliance with AOC, BCAA, ICAO/IATA SARPs and DHL standards.
• Act as the Nominated Post Holder for Flight Operations, securing regulatory approvals.
• Lead and continuously improve the Safety Management System (SMS) and Fatigue Risk Management System (FRMS).
• Define and maintain SOPs, operating standards and crew procedures.
• Deliver performance targets: on‑time performance, schedule reliability, crew productivity.
• Oversee crew recruitment, training, checking and performance management.
• Manage incident response through the Emergency Response Plan.
• Drive digitalisation initiatives such as Flight Data Monitoring, Electronic Flight Bags and operational analytics.
• Contribute to fleet planning, network development and long‑term strategy.
• Support sustainability targets through operational efficiency.

Required profile

• Valid Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL).
• Extensive command experience, preferably on wide‑body cargo aircraft.
• 12–15 years of flight experience with senior operational leadership.
• Regulatory approval as Post Holder Flight Operations.
• Strong knowledge of air law, regulatory frameworks and aircraft systems.
• Proven leadership in a multi‑base airline environment.
• Experience with IOSA audits and regulatory oversight.
