About the role
We are a leading company in Bahrain seeking an experienced GIS Engineer to oversee the installation, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of 220kV and 66kV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) systems. The role involves working on high‑voltage substations and power transmission projects, ensuring reliability and safety of critical electrical infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Install, test, commission, operate and maintain 220kV & 66kV GIS systems.
- Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance of GIS equipment.
- Diagnose and rectify faults in GIS, high‑voltage switchgear and associated electrical systems.
- Conduct testing and commissioning of transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, CTs, PTs, busbars and switchgear.
- Execute insulation resistance, contact resistance, timing, SF6 gas leakage and functional testing.
- Read and interpret Single Line Diagrams, protection schematics, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Coordinate with OEMs, consultants and project teams during installation and commissioning.
- Prepare maintenance schedules, technical reports, testing records and commissioning documentation.
- Supervise technicians and contractors while maintaining project quality and safety standards.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BE/B.Tech).
- 5–7 years of experience in operation, maintenance, installation, testing and commissioning of 220kV & 66kV GIS.
- At least 3 years of hands‑on GIS installation, testing and commissioning.
- Experience with OEMs or OEM channel partners; GCC or international utility experience preferred.
- Knowledge of 33/11kV metal‑clad switchgear, circuit breakers and busbars is an advantage.
Required skills
- Strong knowledge of Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) technology.
- Expertise in protection and relay testing.
- Experience with high‑voltage electrical equipment.
- Understanding of power transmission and distribution systems.
- Familiarity with IEC, IEEE and other international electrical standards.
- Ability to read electrical drawings, SLDs and engineering documentation.
