GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) Engineer

About the role

The company is looking for an experienced GIS Engineer to lead the installation, testing, commissioning, operation and maintenance of 220 kV and 66 kV Gas Insulated Switchgear systems in Bahrain’s high‑voltage substations.

Key responsibilities

• Install, test, commission, operate and maintain 220 kV & 66 kV GIS equipment.
• Perform preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on GIS and related high‑voltage switchgear.
• Diagnose and rectify faults in GIS, transformers, circuit breakers, protection relays, CTs, PTs, busbars and associated systems.
• Execute insulation resistance, contact resistance, timing, SF6 leakage and functional testing.
• Read and interpret single‑line diagrams, protection schematics, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with OEMs, consultants and project teams during installation and commissioning.
• Prepare maintenance schedules, technical reports, test records and commissioning documentation.
• Supervise technicians and contractors while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and international standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (BE/B.Tech).
• 5–7 years of experience in operation, maintenance, installation, testing and commissioning of 220 kV & 66 kV GIS.
• At least 3 years of hands‑on GIS installation, testing and commissioning experience.
• Experience working with OEMs or OEM channel partners; GCC or international utility experience preferred.
• Knowledge of 33/11 kV metal‑clad switchgear, circuit breakers and busbars is an advantage.
