Network Engineer / Telecommunications Engineer

About the role

The employer is looking for a technically capable and detail-oriented Network Engineer / Telecommunications Specialist to support the design, implementation, maintenance and optimisation of network infrastructure and telecommunications systems. The role ensures reliable connectivity, efficient network performance and stable communication services, working with IT teams, service providers and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Design, configure, implement and maintain LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN and related connectivity solutions.
• Support deployment and maintenance of routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, servers and telecom equipment.
• Monitor availability, traffic, bandwidth and performance, and troubleshoot protocols, IP addressing, routing, switching, DNS and DHCP.
• Coordinate installations, upgrades, expansions and equipment replacements; diagnose interruptions and faults.
• Support voice and data systems such as VoIP, IP telephony and fibre-optic networks.
• Work with ISPs, vendors and contractors to resolve service issues, and carry out assessments, testing and inspections.
• Implement security measures, access controls and firewall policies, and keep diagrams, configuration records and inventories up to date.
• Assist with capacity planning, upgrades, migrations and improvements, and give technical support to internal users.

Required profile

• Diploma or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Telecommunications Engineering or a related field preferred.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, good communication and coordination skills, and ability to manage technical documentation.
• Certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP or CompTIA Network+ are advantageous but not mandatory.

Required skills

• Networking concepts, routing, switching and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs).
• Familiarity with routers, switches, firewalls, wireless systems and structured cabling; knowledge of fibre optics and VoIP is an advantage.
• Network monitoring, diagnostic and configuration tools, and cybersecurity practices.
