Mechanical Engineer – Reverse Osmosis Plant

About the role

The Mechanical Engineer – Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant is responsible for the operation, maintenance and reliability of all mechanical systems associated with an RO water‑treatment facility. The role ensures continuous, efficient water production while complying with safety, environmental and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and maintain RO plants and related water‑treatment equipment to ensure uninterrupted production.
• Inspect and oversee high‑pressure pumps, membranes, pressure vessels, multimedia and cartridge filters, chemical dosing systems and other mechanical assets.
• Plan and execute preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance to maximise equipment availability.
• Troubleshoot mechanical faults, diagnose failures and implement corrective actions.
• Monitor key parameters such as flow, pressure, conductivity, TDS, recovery rate and membrane performance.
• Perform membrane Cleaning‑in‑Place (CIP), membrane replacement and system performance evaluations.
• Coordinate maintenance activities with operations teams to minimise production interruptions.
• Assist in installation, testing, commissioning and start‑up of new mechanical equipment and plant modifications.
• Maintain pumps, motors, valves, pipelines, storage tanks and related systems according to manufacturer recommendations.
• Participate in root‑cause analysis of equipment failures and drive reliability improvements.
• Maintain accurate records, inspection reports and spare‑parts documentation in the CMMS.
• Support inventory control and spare‑parts management for critical equipment.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives aimed at reducing operating costs and enhancing plant efficiency.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Professional certification in Water Treatment, Industrial Maintenance or Reliability Engineering is an advantage.
• Minimum 5 years of hands‑on experience in mechanical maintenance and operation of RO plants or desalination facilities.
• Strong knowledge of pumps, membranes, pressure vessels, filtration and chemical dosing systems.
• Proven ability to conduct preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes.
