Civil Engineering Technician – University of Strathclyde Bahrain

About the role

The University of Strathclyde Bahrain is seeking a Civil Engineering Technician to provide practical technical support to students and staff. The role will initially focus on teaching activities and later expand to support research and knowledge‑exchange projects within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver hands‑on technical assistance in civil engineering teaching laboratories.
• Maintain, calibrate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and tools.
• Ensure compliance with local health and safety regulations and relevant technical standards.
• Support academic staff in preparing and delivering laboratory sessions.
• Assist research teams with technical set‑up, data collection and equipment usage.
• Develop and update laboratory procedures and safety documentation.

Required profile

• Diploma (or higher) in Civil Engineering; Mechanical or Chemical Engineering qualifications with relevant experience are also considered.
• Significant experience working in higher‑education teaching laboratories.
• Strong knowledge of local health and safety regulations and technical standards applicable to civil engineering.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining technical concepts to students of varying backgrounds.
• Proactive attitude with a high level of personal responsibility and initiative.
