Commis Chef – Peking Duck (Chinese Cuisine)

About the role

A restaurant in Bahrain is looking for a dedicated Commis Chef to join its Chinese cuisine team, specialising in the preparation of Peking Duck. The role lets you learn traditional techniques under the guidance of senior chefs while helping deliver one of the most celebrated dishes in fine dining. It is a full-time position.

Key responsibilities

• Clean, trim and prepare ducks for marination and roasting
• Assist with traditional marinades, seasonings and air-drying techniques
• Operate roasting ovens under supervision to ensure crisp skin and tender meat
• Prepare accompaniments such as pancakes, scallions, cucumber and sauces
• Support carving and plating of duck for service
• Maintain cleanliness of prep and roasting areas in line with HACCP standards
• Track duck inventory, sauces and accompaniments and report shortages promptly

Required profile

• Diploma or certification in Culinary Arts preferred
• Prior experience in Asian or Chinese cuisine is an advantage
• Enthusiasm for learning traditional Chinese cooking methods

Required skills

• Knowledge of Chinese roasting techniques and traditional Peking Duck preparation
• Ability to follow precise recipes and instructions
• Strong attention to detail and patience for multi-step processes
• Teamwork and communication skills to support senior chefs
• Basic understanding of food safety and hygiene practices

The role forms a foundation for growth into Demi Chef de Partie or Chef de Partie positions, with opportunities to specialise in roasting, banquets or signature Chinese dishes.
