Communications and Operations Assistant (Part‑time UN Volunteer)

About the role

The United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Manama is seeking a part‑time Communications and Operations Assistant to support its public information and outreach activities across Bahrain, the UAE and Qatar. The role combines content creation, media monitoring and administrative support to enhance the visibility of UN campaigns and events.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and draft news articles, human‑interest stories, web content and communication materials in Arabic and English.
• Conduct background research, gather quotes and supporting information from UN agencies and partners.
• Create, schedule and publish social‑media content; monitor engagement and prepare basic analytics reports.
• Capture photographs and videos of UN events and produce multimedia assets such as reels, short videos and photo stories.
• Maintain organized archives of communication assets, photographs and audiovisual material.
• Update website content ensuring accuracy and compliance with UN communication guidelines.
• Support outreach campaigns, public events, international observances and visibility initiatives.
• Monitor media coverage of the United Nations and prepare periodic media summaries.
• Provide administrative and logistical assistance including correspondence, record management, meeting coordination, event organization and operational reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration or a related field.
• Up to 2 years of experience in communications, journalism, social media, public information or administration.
• Fluency in Arabic and English with strong writing and editing skills.
• Ability to work independently in a multicultural environment and handle multiple tasks with attention to detail.
