Divisional Manager, Consumables ($50-75M)

About the role

The Navy Exchange is hiring a Divisional Manager for its consumables retail division in Bahrain, covering a $50-75M portfolio. The post is full-time (35+ hours) and unaccompanied, and requires US citizenship. It sits within the Navy Exchange complex management staff and involves supervising store operations.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and maximize operational performance and develop financial projections for assigned departments, initiating corrective action where needed.
• Develop and run merchandising strategies and promotional programs, review buyer submissions and recommend advertising requirements for store and regional events.
• Keep abreast of market trends, benchmark against other retailers and coordinate model stock plans, seasonal buying plans and new item introductions with buyers.
• Ensure merchandise availability and inventory levels meet NEX standards, give feedback on product sellability and slow/fast-moving items, and maximize use of vendor assets.
• Coordinate product knowledge and job skills training for department managers and sales associates, supervise assigned personnel, staff vacancies and evaluate performance.
• Maintain liaison with NEXCOM and regional merchandising and operating staff, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Three years of general experience in operational, administrative, merchandising, retail sales or similar work, with mature judgment and good interpersonal skills.
• One year of higher education may substitute for 9 months of experience, up to a 4-year bachelor's degree for 3 years of general experience.
• Two years of progressive retail merchandising experience, such as sales promotions, display, inventory control, customer relations, supervisory experience and security/safety compliance, or similar retail management work.
• Must be a US citizen; the position is unaccompanied.
