Global Head of ESG Risks & CRO Bahrain

About the role

The Global Head of ESG Risks & CRO will lead the worldwide coordination of ESG and climate‑risk governance for Mashreq Group, while overseeing all risk classes for Mashreq Bahrain. The role bridges group‑level policy development with local regulatory compliance and risk management.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and implement a group‑wide ESG and climate‑risk policy framework.
• Coordinate ESG risk disclosures, net‑zero and transition planning inputs across the organization.
• Act as the focal point for ESG risk matters across Mashreq’s international presence, ensuring alignment and best‑practice sharing.
• Conduct gap analyses, create roadmaps and oversee remediation for ESG‑related regulatory requirements (e.g., CB UAE climate‑risk principles).
• Oversee ESG risk measurement, ensure compliance with internal policies, and manage change initiatives with technology and data teams.
• Support regulatory reporting (GRI, ISSB, IFRS S1/S2, Pillar 3) with ESG‑related financial risk inputs.
• Lead capacity‑building activities, training and awareness on ESG and climate risk.
• Manage all risk classes for Mashreq Bahrain, coordinate with Head‑Office risk functions, and serve as secretary of the Bahrain Risk Committee.

Required profile

• Proven experience in leading ESG, climate‑risk, and overall risk management at a senior level.
• Deep understanding of global and local ESG regulatory frameworks.
• Strong coordination skills across multiple business lines and geographies.
• Ability to drive governance, policy implementation and remediation programmes.
