Buyer – Merchandise Officer (Retail)

About the role

The Merchandise Officer/Buyer will lead the strategy, monitoring and reporting of category performance across sales, margins, stock levels and market share. Reporting to the Category Head or Merchandising Manager, the role ensures optimal product assortment and profitability.

Key responsibilities

• Develop annual budgets and forecasts for assigned categories and track performance against targets.
• Implement promotional strategies to drive sales and improve margins.
• Lead supplier negotiations, set contract terms and monitor key performance indicators.
• Maintain optimal inventory levels using open‑to‑buy management and conduct regular stock assessments.
• Analyse market trends and competitor activity to identify new product opportunities.
• Collaborate with store teams, marketing and finance to ensure accurate reporting and effective promotions.
• Plan weekly and monthly promotional activities and evaluate their impact.
• Identify training needs, coordinate supplier‑led training and monitor its effectiveness.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years experience in Category Management within the retail sector, preferably electronics.
• Post‑graduate qualification.
