Chief Engineer - Hotel Engineering

About the role

The Chief Engineer manages all engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, including the building, grounds and physical plant, with particular attention to safety, security and asset protection. The role is accountable for the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance and energy conservation, and leads the emergency response team for all facility issues.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and repair building systems, life safety systems, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, sewage, central plant, kitchen, laundry, grounds, landscaping and swimming pool water features.
• Conserve energy through the utility management program and run preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms and public areas.
• Inspect buildings and facilities periodically, determine repair needs and set priorities for enhancement and modification, developing a five-year plan communicated to the Assistant Director of Engineering.
• Coordinate carpentry, painting and decorating projects and manage purchasing, inventory and pricing of parts and tools.
• Lead and motivate the engineering team, plan and distribute work, and act in the Assistant Director's absence.
• Recruit and interview applicants using the Quality Selection Process, and ensure staff complete training certification and follow safety procedures (JSAs, MSDSs).
• Prepare reports, recommend personnel actions and inspect completed work against blueprints, specifications and codes.
• Practice emergency and fire procedures and assist in emergency situations.

Required profile

• An engineering degree or diploma in any engineering field, or equivalent.
• Or at least 5 years of experience in the engineering department of The Ritz-Carlton or another hotel company in a similar position.
