Chiller Technician – Truck Reefer Unit Specialist

About the role

The Chiller Technician is responsible for inspecting, installing, maintaining, diagnosing and repairing refrigerated (reefer) units on trucks and trailers. The role ensures cooling systems operate efficiently, meet safety standards and keep cargo at the required temperature during transport.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose and repair truck and trailer refrigeration units (e.g., Corunclima, Thermo King, Carrier).
• Install new reefer units, perform setup, testing and commissioning.
• Conduct quality checks and inspections on newly installed equipment.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance such as oil changes, filter replacements and system checks.
• Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and refrigeration faults.
• Monitor and calibrate temperature control systems.
• Repair or replace components like compressors, condensers, evaporators and sensors.
• Detect leaks and recharge refrigerant in line with environmental regulations.
• Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
• Respond to emergency breakdowns and provide on‑site repairs.
• Support workshop staff during idle periods and collaborate with drivers and fleet personnel.

Required profile

• Proven experience with transport refrigeration (reefer) systems.
• Strong knowledge of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems and diesel engines.
• Ability to read technical manuals and wiring diagrams.
• Familiarity with diagnostic tools and software for reefer units.
• Valid driver’s licence (heavy‑vehicle licence is a plus).
• Good problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently under pressure.
