Lead Accounts Officer

About the role

The Lead Accounts Officer will act as the primary liaison between the accounts payable function, internal stakeholders, and external vendors. Reporting to the Head of Accounts Payable, this role ensures timely processing of payments and supports continuous improvement of AP processes.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as the main point of contact for all accounts payable inquiries.
• Review and approve payments efficiently and accurately.
• Monitor AP dashboards, vendor balances, aged payables, and outstanding advances, providing data for analysis.
• Maintain accurate records, reconcile vendor statements and employee expenses, and resolve discrepancies.
• Engage regularly with business teams to address critical financial matters.
• Escalate urgent issues to the Head of Accounts Payable and Finance Director.
• Collaborate with IT to automate and streamline AP processes.
• Enhance existing reports and develop new ones as business needs evolve.
• Assist in creating and implementing AP policies and procedures.
• Train and mentor AP staff on best practices.
• Coordinate with external auditors and support VAT and tax audits.
• Perform ad‑hoc projects assigned by senior leadership.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar accounts payable role.
• Semi‑qualified Chartered Accountant, Bachelor/Master of Commerce, or equivalent qualification.
• Proven ability to build strong relationships with vendors and internal teams.
• Excellent prioritisation, multitasking, and attention‑to‑detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience leading a team of accountants and streamlining accounting processes.
• Fluency in written and spoken Arabic.
