Lead Mechanical Engineer – Water & Wastewater Projects

About the role

The Lead Mechanical Engineer will head a team delivering mechanical designs for desalination, water, effluent and sewage treatment projects across the Middle East and Africa. The role involves close interaction with consultants, clients and international vendors to secure approvals and optimise solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Mechanical Engineers through tendering and detailed engineering phases.
• Develop mechanical components, plant layouts, GA and piping drawings for water and wastewater treatment facilities.
• Plan engineering deliverables, allocate resources and ensure timely execution.
• Collaborate with other disciplines to integrate mechanical systems and review design deliverables.
• Conduct hydraulic, surge and CFD analyses; review stress analysis reports (CAESAR II).
• Evaluate vendor offers, perform technical comparisons and support procurement decisions.

Required profile

• B.Tech (Mechanical) minimum with 12‑15 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
• 3‑5 years in a leadership role managing engineering teams.
• Hands‑on experience with water, effluent, sewage treatment plants and transmission/distribution pipelines in the Middle East or Africa.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for client and consultant interaction.

Required skills

• Advanced knowledge of ASME, BS EN, ISO, QCS, NWC codes.
• Proficiency in plant layout, GA drawing, piping and pipeline design.
• Hydraulics and transient analysis using WaterGEMS, WaterHammer, SAP.
• Stress analysis with CAESAR II.
• CFD and surge modelling.
• Vendor engineering, technical comparison and post‑order document review.
• Participation in HAZOP workshops.
