Purchasing Agent - Construction Projects

About the role

The Purchasing Agent plans, sources and procures the materials, equipment and services needed for construction projects. The role keeps procurement efficient, cost-effective and in line with project specifications, company policies and quality standards, working closely with project teams, suppliers and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Source, evaluate and select suppliers and vendors for materials, equipment and services
• Obtain quotations and negotiate pricing, payment terms and delivery schedules
• Prepare, issue and follow up on purchase orders within project requirements and approved budgets
• Coordinate with project managers and site engineers so procurement needs are met on time
• Monitor supplier performance and ensure timely delivery
• Resolve delivery delays, quality concerns and invoice discrepancies
• Maintain accurate records of purchases, supplier information, quotations, contracts and procurement activities
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and quality standards
• Support cost control by identifying savings and securing competitive pricing
• Track and report procurement progress, expenditures and supplier performance
• Perform other procurement duties assigned by the Procurement Manager

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Procurement or a related field
• 3-5 years of procurement or purchasing experience, preferably in the construction industry
• Knowledge of procurement processes, purchasing practices and supplier management
• Familiarity with construction materials, equipment and vendor markets
• Proven ability to negotiate contracts, pricing and commercial terms
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication and organisational skills
• Attention to detail in purchase orders, contracts and documentation
