Scholarly Communications and Research Support Librarian

About the role

The Scholarly Communications and Research Support Librarian will lead the university’s efforts to enhance open access publishing, research impact, and data stewardship. Working closely with faculty, researchers, and postgraduate students, the role supports the entire research lifecycle and raises the visibility of RCSI Bahrain’s scholarly output.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and promote open‑access initiatives, author rights guidance, and compliance with funder policies.
• Design and deliver training on scholarly publishing, research integrity, open science, and the institutional repository.
• Provide expert advice on predatory publishing, copyright, Creative Commons licensing, and publishing agreements.
• Coordinate publication tracking, bibliometric services, and research metrics such as h‑index and altmetrics.
• Deliver consultations and workshops on systematic reviews, evidence synthesis, advanced literature searching, and reference‑management tools.
• Lead the management of research data, promote FAIR principles, and support data‑management planning.
• Assist researchers in journal selection using tools like Journal Finder, Scopus, and SJR, and support grant‑application literature reviews.

Required profile

• Experience working in academic libraries or research support services.
• Strong knowledge of open‑access policies, scholarly communication, and research metrics.
• Ability to collaborate with faculty, research offices, and students to embed scholarly‑communication concepts into curricula and training.

Required skills

• Proficiency with reference‑management software such as EndNote, Mendeley, and Zotero.
• Familiarity with bibliometric tools including Scopus and SJR.
• Understanding of research data‑management practices and FAIR principles.
