Steward

About the role

The Steward is responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and sanitation throughout the kitchen, back‑dock, dumpster and utility areas. This role supports the culinary team by handling dishwashing, proper storage of china, glass and silverware, and assisting with food storage and rotation.

Key responsibilities

• Perform heavy‑duty cleaning of ovens, grills, sinks, walls, floors, walk‑in refrigerators and freezers.
• Operate industrial dishwashing equipment, ensuring all items are thoroughly cleaned, sanitized and returned to proper storage.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary environment, using chemicals safely and following MSDS guidelines.
• Assist with setting up and breaking down restaurant buffets and banquet service, supplying china, glass and silver as needed.
• Empty garbage, manage waste according to hotel and local recycling standards, and keep floors dry and clean.
• Report maintenance or hazard issues to the stewarding supervisor and change water in the dishwashing machine.
• Support cooks and servers by delivering cutlery, napkins, trays and condiments to serving stations.

Required profile

• At least 1–2 years of experience in a similar stewarding or kitchen support role.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Good communication and customer‑service skills.
• Professional attitude, reliable “can‑do” mindset and excellent grooming standards.

Required skills

• Operation of industrial dishwashers.
• Knowledge of chemical sanitation procedures and MSDS information.
• Heavy‑duty kitchen equipment cleaning techniques.
