Able Seaman (Deck Hand) – Vessel Operations

About the role

The Able Seaman Deck (Deck Hand) supports safe and efficient vessel operations for Svitzer, a global towage leader. Reporting directly to the Master, you will help keep the vessel ready for deployment while adhering to company safety policies and local regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Master in maintaining vessel availability and safety.
• Perform deck, engine‑room and accommodation housekeeping and maintenance tasks.
• Stand watches, including lookout duties on the bridge and deck as required.
• Support salvage jobs, workshop tasks ashore, and equipment preparation for tow operations.
• Initiate Stop‑Work and Take‑5 procedures when tasks are unsafe.
• Participate actively in safety drills and near‑miss reporting.
• Conduct induction training for visitors and authorized personnel when senior officers are unavailable.

Required profile

• II/4 – Nav Watch Rating – Unlimited.
• STCW Basic Safety Training (A‑VI/1) and Security Training for Designated Security Duties (A‑VI/6).
• Valid Seafarer Medical certificate.
• Commitment to follow Svitzer’s safety management system and local legislation.
