Commis I Pastry Chef

About the role

The Westin in Manama is looking for a Commis I Pastry Chef to prepare desserts and confectionery, design seasonal menus and develop new recipes for the pastry section of the kitchen. The role also covers preparing special meals, cooking according to recipes and quality standards, and supporting the kitchen team.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare desserts and confectionery, design seasonal menus and develop new recipes
• Prepare special meals or substitute items, and pull frozen items from storage to thaw in the refrigerator
• Regulate oven, broiler, grill and roaster temperatures, and ensure proper portion, arrangement and garnish
• Maintain food logs and monitor the quality and quantity of food prepared
• Communicate assistance needs during busy periods and inform the Chef of excess food for daily specials
• Inform Food & Beverage staff of menu specials and out-of-stock items, and ensure food meets quality standards
• Prepare and cook food according to recipes, quality standards, presentation standards and the food preparation checklist, including cold foods
• Anticipate guest service needs and speak clearly and professionally with colleagues
• Support the team, maintain positive working relationships and uphold quality expectations
• Follow company and safety policies, report accidents and unsafe conditions, complete safety training and certifications, and keep a clean, professional appearance
• Lift and move objects up to 25 pounds and perform other reasonable duties requested by supervisors

Required profile

• Preferred: technical, trade or vocational school degree
• Preferred: at least 3 years of related work experience
• No supervisory experience required
• No license or certification required
