Head of Environment, Health, and Safety

About the role

The organization seeks a senior professional to lead Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) across its water infrastructure, water treatment and desalination projects in Bahrain. The role is responsible for establishing a zero‑harm culture, ensuring regulatory compliance and driving continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee all HSE activities across multiple water infrastructure, water treatment and desalination projects.
• Develop and implement project‑specific HSE plans, policies, procedures and emergency response plans.
• Ensure compliance with Bahrain HSE regulations, client specifications, ISO standards and international safety practices.
• Establish a proactive safety culture through regular campaigns, toolbox talks and awareness programs.
• Conduct risk assessments, Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and Hazard Identification and Risk Assessments (HIRA) and apply mitigation measures.
• Monitor site safety inspections, audits and compliance assessments; investigate incidents, near‑misses and accidents.
• Coordinate HSE matters with clients, consultants, contractors and government authorities.
• Manage statutory requirements such as permit‑to‑work, confined space entry, lifting, excavation, electrical safety and work‑at‑height.
• Oversee environmental compliance, waste management, pollution control and sustainability initiatives.
• Lead emergency preparedness drills, crisis management and develop HSE KPIs for senior management reporting.
• Mentor and manage site safety managers, safety officers and HSE engineers.

Required profile

• Proven experience leading HSE functions for large‑scale water, treatment or desalination projects.
• In‑depth knowledge of Bahrain HSE regulations, ISO standards and international safety best practices.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and enforce HSE policies, emergency response plans and sustainability programs.
• Strong track record of conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and driving continuous improvement toward Zero Harm objectives.
