Senior Accountant – Insurance Sector

About the role

Grant Thornton Bahrain is seeking a Senior Accountant specialized in the insurance sector to support a leading insurance client. The role involves preparing financial statements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and coordinating audit activities while maintaining high accuracy and timeliness.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare management reports, including monthly actual vs. budget analysis and sales forecasts.
• Submit regulatory filings within statutory deadlines.
• Prepare IFRS‑compliant financial statements with a focus on IFRS 17.
• Coordinate with internal and external auditors and provide audit support.
• Supervise junior accountants and review their work.
• Execute month‑end closing activities such as accruals, pre‑payments, depreciation and accounting adjustments.
• Prepare and review journal entries for branches and agencies.
• Perform reconciliations for banks, clients, insurance companies, suppliers and inter‑company accounts.
• Review supporting documents for claims, payments, refunds and supplier transactions.
• Maintain fixed asset registers and prepare employee deduction vouchers.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• 3–6 years of accounting experience, preferably in the insurance industry.
• Professional qualification such as ACCA or CPA is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS financial reporting, IFRS 17 Insurance Contracts, insurance accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements.
